Evergreen, rarely subdeciduous shrub, or small tree, up to 6 m high; young shoots slender and long, sparsely yellow-or brown-scaly, sometimes white-pubescent. Leaves coriaceous, lanceolate, elliptec or oblong-lanceolate, 2-7 cm long and 0.8-3 cm broad, acute or mucronate at apex, cuneate or rounded at base, dark green, scaly and pubescent, always puberulent along the midrib above, scaly with space between scales 1-3 times as large as their diameter, and always with straighr setae along the midrib beneath. Inflorescence 3-flowered; pedicels 1-2 cm long, sparsely scaly, sometimes puberulent; calyx less than 2 mm long, shallowly 5-lobed, scaly, ciliate or puberulent; corolla white, light purple, lavender, almost blue, funnel-shaped, 2.5-4 cm long, with greenish or brownish markings; stamens 10, 2.5-4 cm long, filaments pubescent at base; pistil 3-5 cm long, ovary cylindric, 5mm long, densely scaly and pilose at base. Capsule 1-2 cm long, 3-4 mm in diameter. Flowering in Apr.-June, fruiting in Sept.-Oct.

Distributed in east to west Sichuan: Wanyuan, Xuanhan, Chengkou, Wuxi,Kaixian, Pingwu, Maowen, Lixian, Tianquan, Luding, Kangding, Zhaojue, Jinyang, Shimian and Wushan Counties. Growing in forests, and scrub or on forest margin at 1200-3200 m altitude. Also in Yunnan, Xizang.
